“Where are you going?” Ick called after me.

“Home,” I said. I was thinking I’d crawl into bed and hope this whole weird situation fixed itself. “No point in staying here.”

“But, Chase,” Ick said. “What if . . .”

I stopped and turned to face her. “What?” I said.

“Your parents,” she said. “What if your parents don’t know who you are?”

Chapter 7

Homeless and Hopeless

“Where will I live?” I said. “How will I even survive?”

Ick and I were sitting on the curb in front of the school. My head was in my hands. I probably looked just like the guy from Ick’s comic book. I felt totally hopeless. It was the worst day of my life.

“We can fix this,” Ick said. She put an arm around me and patted my shoulder. “Seriously.”
